National Honor Society
Applications are accepted during two windows: the final week of junior year and the first week of senior year. The review process typically takes approximately two weeks, and all students will be notified once applications are reviewed. Once notified of acceptance, students may immediately include National Honor Society membership on their college applications.
Students are responsible for completing and submitting their applications on time. Late applications will not be accepted except in cases of emergency. Ongoing communication will be sent directly to accepted students via Schoology and Remind. Access codes will be provided in the acceptance email.
A combined induction ceremony for our multiple honor societies is held in late September.
A $40 membership fee is required, which covers national dues as well as graduation stoles. Payment must be submitted in September through your PayForIt account. Students with financial need should contact Dr. Hunt or Ms. Bryan.
Eligibility Criteria:
Pillar 1 – Scholarship
Candidates must have a cumulative weighted GPA of 4.000 after completion of the junior year.
No exceptions will be made.
Pillar 2 – Service
Candidates must complete and document a minimum of 20 hours of community service prior to the application deadline. Service must be voluntary and performed since the first day of freshman year, beneficial to the community or others and not directly benefiting the student (examples include volunteering at a daycare, parish, or community organization), not court-ordered, not paid or compensated hours
Pillar 3 – Leadership
Candidates must have prior documented leadership experience, which must be verified through a letter (template provided on Schoology or via a link on the application) sent directly to the NHS advisor from someone who can attest to your leadership experience. Leadership is defined as a position in which the student oversees a group of people and provides direction, accountability, and performance guidance. Examples include running a youth camp, leading a parish organization, or coaching youth sports.
Pillar 4 – Character
Candidates must demonstrate outstanding character. Students with documented academic dishonesty or who have received level III disciplinary action at any time during high school are ineligible. Level II discipline must be disclosed by the candidate during the application process for faculty and administrative review. Candidates who are denied acceptance based on disciplinary infractions may appeal the decision directly to the principal. The principal shall review all appeals in cases of rejection due to disciplinary action.
Membership Commitment
Membership requires a time commitment to NHS activities and programs during the senior year. Accepted members must attend all scheduled NHS meetings and participate in programs sponsored or co-sponsored by NHS, including but not limited to the Rustin Peer Tutoring Program and community service projects.
